Several people have mentioned the wearing of a kilt on Tartan Day. The average person won't spend the money on a kilt, but there are other types of tartan clothing (trousers, shirts, ties, hats, etc.) that are more affordable and could be worn with one's everyday attire.
I can't wear a kilt at work (violates safety rules), but I can wear a tartan shirt or trousers.
