The one that tickles your fancy when you're getting dressed for the Burns Supper.

Nothing wrong with any of those tartans--we are all impressed!--but I would go with the Skye.
Of course, there is the question of what goes on top. You want everything to match.
What goes on top isn't a real issue...prince charlie jacket, waistcoat, dress sporran, black tie...will go with each kilt.
Maybe the Maclaren 1819 is the best choise for the Burns Supper...it's a flamboyant tartan
The Isle of Skye to beat the weather and the MacLaren muted or modern for the day...those with a hangover won't have to wear sunglasses when they look at it

But I'd love to see both you and Hamish wearing your xmarks tartans in the same photo. To bad there aren't others with xmarks tartan kilts going.
Don't forget me I also have an Xmarks tartan kilt and I also will be there, perhaps we should all dress the same and do a Hamish

I think your McLaren Modern with matching tartan hose and PC is your best looking outfit. It gets my vote.

Robin, If I remember correctly you will be with the crowd at Ferintosh. With a crowd as diverse and esteemed as that, I'd wear the MacLaren 1819. Mostly because no one else at the table will be wearing the same tartan. Porrick will likely have that great looking Murphy tartan kilt, P1M has many fine kilts to choose from, Freelander and Sten Rune will have some nice sporrans for show, and Hamish will likely do a costume change at different intervals of the meal etc, etc, etc.
Someone else will likely have the Xmarks tartan and the Isle of Skye tartan, so I would save those for the pub crawl instead.

I PERSONALLY am a fan of ancient and muted tartans. So, I would wear the MacLaren muted. But, the MacLaren modern AND matching tartan hose?? I think that one speaks for itself in awesomeness.

Robin,
I vote for the Isle of Skye* for Burn's Night and the X Marks tartans for visiting the pubs in Dumfries with your fellow X Markers.
Cheers
* It's such a classy and lovely tartan

Thanks guys!
The Xmarks is no pub option...it's rather lightweight and not very warm
