doing the museum

Greetings all!

Yesterday we (my family) drove to Minneapolis and went to the Science Museum. I was kilted and amazed at the double takes and 'brave, tough man' comments. I didn't even feel the need to wear a coat! Thanks for the wool Jerry,
I know Minnesota is not THE place for men in kilts but I was suprised that so many passersby stopped in their tracks. I did run into a young man who is a bagpiper and we had a short talk. He was working so time was limited. Gave him your URL Jerry so maybe another satisfied customer.

Sometimes I wonder what the reaction will be when I wear the kilt someplace REALLY exotic.....Utah maybe?

Yootah isn't exactly "exotic" or odd ya know. We've got a couple of Xmarkers out that way. I spent a couple of years there (Hill AFB) and I loved it.

I grew up in Utah. Mostly nice people. And there IS a Ben Lomond high school there which has a marching pipe band!

Actually, quite a few Scots settled in Utah with the LDS immigrations in the 19th century. Salt Lake City has a pipe band and there are a number of active Scottish societies in Utah.

I didn't know Minneapolis had the Science museum - although they do have the Bakken Museum which is pretty cool.

I work 2 blocks from the Science Museum of Minnesota (in St. Paul), but I didn't leave the office building yesterday.

I know a Mormon who wears a kilt. He's a friend of mine who owns the Denny's in the town I grew up in (Durango, CO). The first time he saw me in my great kilt he went on for about an hour about the first time he wore a kilt (in his hometown of St. George, Utah) and how cool kilts are. We'd have to ask our Utah members, but I don't think you'd have a lick of trouble.

We have two Scottish Festivals here every year, several Scottish societies, an annual Ball, and too many pipe bands to mention.
It's generally a kilt friendly place, or has been so to me.
