The Thomas is probably Thomas Gordon (and sons), a Glasgow kiltmaker (still there my tank was purchased in their shop) that at one time had major military contracts. On the other hand, no idea why the US emblem since a kilt was never part of any US uniform that late in history.

It's possible the US emblem was added at a later date either for personal purposes or for a unit pipe band. Just speculating here.

Was there a US Army pipe band in the 20s/30s?
Or at the Army Academy/West Point?
(A good question for our military experts-> HEY, CAJUNSCOT!!!!)

I don't know about the rest of the armed forces, but the United States Corps of Cadets Pipes and Drums were first formed in 1972.
