I just got my camping confirmation too.
I will be there hopefully from Wed thru Sunday.
Not sure if my wife will make it due to Grad School classes.
I try to get close to the cold showers on the curfew side.
As we get closer we can work out the meeting sites.

I'm on the curfew side as well, but arriving Friday thru Sunday. What's the story on food availability versus bring all your camping stuff? I had just planned on sclepping along a cooler of Skullsplitter and Old Chub, and a bottle of Laphraoig. Do I really need anything else to eat?
Just kidding. Don't want to set a bad example for the kids. We'll have wine and twinkies too.

IF you can find a place to tie on and have a garden hose you might get
water. Bring a splitter and a sprayer if you are going to try this.
They do have Ice you can buy. Their are plenty of food vendors if you
just want to buy food.
I'll have a cooler of Gaelic Ale and a bottle of Highland Park.

Be sure to bring a coozy for you beer and bag to keep your whisky in.
While I have not seen them enforce it much I would not
take any chances. Grandfather Mt. is in a DRY county.
Here are some other things to bring:
Sunscreen
Rain Coat or Jacket
Flashlight for night activities
Tarp for shade or for rain.
The Camping area is sometimes called tarp city since
all the experienced campers put tarps everywhere.
under their tents, over their tents, over their eating area, etc.
Be sure to look close to the lay of the land, especially the
way water may have flowed. I will have a small shovel so you can trench
around you tent if you want.
Thunderstorms are a part of life on the Mt. As are changing temps.
I have seen it in the 80's to 50's during the day and down
into the 40's at night. Be prepared for Change!

Just a quick note - Not sure what Kiltedmusiclover meant by DRY county. There is at least one liquor store nearby at Invershiel/Tynecastle. Some of the towns around there set their own rules for alcohol (ex. Boone doesn't allow liquor-by-the-drink in restaurants) but you can definitely buy it in the store. I believe its up to the festival to decide to allow it.
Don't believe I will be able to make it this year, that is yet to be decided. (not that any of you know me, I'm new around here)

First off Welcome to the board. Always good to have a new member from the
Carolinas.
What I meant about the Dry County is that Grandfather Mt.
is in Avery County. The county does not allow alcohol sales.
Towns within that county can vote to allow sales and a few have:
Banner Elk, Seven Devils, and Sugar Mt. all allow beer and wine sales, andFirst off Welcome to the board. Always good to have a new Carolinian
member.
have ABC stores. So does Boone and Blowing Rock in Watauga county.
The Games turns a bit of a blind eye to Whisky bottles at clan tents but they
do ask that in the camping area you try to keep your libations under wraps.
i.e. a bag for Whisky and cozies for beer bottles and cans.
The games does not apply for permits to allow alcohol sales.

This is about 3 hours from Mom's house & we have never been before. Could be a nice birthday present for her.

Aaaahh. Sorry for the confusion. I have relatives in Seven Devils, so I'm in the area quite a bit. Its hard to keep track of the alcohol laws up there. Ok then, bring yer whisky but keep it brown bagged!
Thanks for the welcome, guess I should go introduce myself in the general forum....

I am planning to go, will be my first Grandfather Mtn. trip. Sadly, the wife will probably NOT be joining, but I may have talked a good friend into camping the weekend with me. Have the campsites filled up yet? I'll be tenting, so I don't need much space.

You should still be able to get tent spot but I would go ahead and
complete the online registration done as soon as possible.

The spots are first come first serve.
