Allan H has a very good discription of how to make box pleats in his manual for the x-kilt.

The design is for a kilt similar to the UniKilt but if you have been making 8 yard knife pleats you should be able to adapt the instructions to your needs.

I am working on my first kilt using Alan's instructions and having billy you know what trying to keep all the pleats and material corraled in some semblance of order so can sew the backside of the pleats and taper the fell when I discovered a "wonderful new kiltmaking tool" A STAPLER one staple where the edges of two top pleats join at the waistband and hem and I can work without a war with 6 yards of fabric!!!l
