I had just moved back to the very small town that I grew up in. This is a very very small town where everyone knows everyone.....and everyone knows everything about everyone.
I think that the first time I wear my kilt in town, they might expect it from me. I have always been the black sheep in town when I was younger (15 years ago) I was the rocker with long hair and freaky clothes.
But, however.....it is a small town where rednecks, farmers and simple folk live. Maybe not.
BUT......my home away from home (Florida) will be much more accepting of the black sheep....er, uh.....Black Skot! LOL!

    Well done Padre,

One of the joys of kilting, in addition to the freedom and the style, is interacting with folks you'd otherwise never speak to....and they risk initiating the contact.

Mostly friendly and well meaning folks, often interesting to talk with. That part of kilting can be addictive too.

I think when you compare your kilted adventures to the times you're wearing "that most horrid garment" you'll feel quite unnoticed in the later.

Enjoy. And if you wanna give your wife a treat, go to a mall kilted and have her follow you a ways back and notice the double takes and comments after you pass other folks.

    Chaplain Harris,

It sounds like a good first outing and you handled yourself well.

The day after St. Patrick’s day we took Xena and Sinbad (our children) to McDonald's. An older gent walked right up to me and asked rather accusingly "Why are you wearing a kilt?" I replied that "Kilts are fun, and I like them"

On the way home I stopped at the grocery store to quickly pickup some milk.
A trio of young adults (early twenties) stopped and stared at me. Then one man ran up to me and gave me a High Five with an exclamation of "DUDE! AWESOME! REAL MEN WEAR KILTS!" I smiled and nodded. He then asked "I bet you got real f***** up last night?" I again smiled and said I tried to show moderation.

I went on my way back to the car and thought to myself that neither of these two guys would have thought twice about me if I had been wearing Dockers and a three button shirt. But I chose to wear a kilt that day and forgo anonymity, and by doing so opened myself up to having a far more interesting day.

    Cheers
