The next step: the Prince Charlie jacket. Question for the gents

My son, D'Argo, is making a formal presentation (about Area 51, of all things) in his speech class next week.
I've ordered the buttons, but I forgot to count the number of buttons on the vest and the back of the jacket, therefore, I'll be about a half dozen short.

 Will this matter?

Is it improper for the vest not to have the silver buttons? Can we get away with 3 on each side of the back instead of four?

					Kizmet,
I take it you are modifying a tuxedo jacket of some sort.

I would have the buttons on the jacket and vest match Prefereably the vest buttons will be smaller than the jacket buttons.

D'Argo could wear the PC jacket sans waistcoat with white shirt, bowtie and a dress belt. Actually this would in my eyes slightly dress down the outfit which would be preferable for a presentation (I generally would imagine 2 0r 3 piece suits would be the norm rather than a tux.)

So skip the buttons on the vest and the back of the jacket and tell your son to break a leg!

 Cheers

Panache has given good advice, here. The full PC sounds like WAY too much for the occasion. Ditch the vest, use your buttons on the jacket and wear a nice, wide dress belt. Have him wear a regular white dress shirt and a regular necktie in either black or a solid tie in a color from his kilt, instead of a bowtie.
Get more buttons (smaller ones) and finish the vest before the lad gets married.

Thank you both for your suggestions. This does give me some leeway since the full regalia needs to be ready on Pascha (Easter) and I can get the other buttons before then.

I suspect, having seen himself in the mirror, that D'Argo is very likely to want the whole kit and kaboodle as soon as possible. He's very handsome all dressed up, but I'm his mom, I'm supposed to be biased.

I have a question, how many buttons do you have in total, to complete the look you would need 3 large buttons per sleeve, three for each side of the front two smaller buttons for epelletts if you are putting them in, three large for each side of the back, and finally three small buttons for the vest.

To illustrate her is my P.C.:

Best of luck to D'Argo for his presentation, I personally would go with the jacket and a dress belt, and save the vest for later.

With the help of Prestor John's wife, I have enough buttons. I have a friend who picked up the buttons from Three Feathers in Millersburg, Ohio.
Thanks again for the help, gents. I'll be sure to get D'Argo to check on your sartorial advice before going to school.
