Digital cameras and tartans don't mix well sometimes.
Here's a couple better shots of the Prince of Wales....was in the wind though.

I have to agree that the Welsh National Tartan does make me think of Christmas. There are other Welsh tartans out there however. There is the County of Powry, and the Pride of Wales too. Check out the Wales Tartan Centre.

There is a photo of a gent wearing a Welsh National tartan cilt with a Welsh rugby jersey, and the combo actually looks good.

Flairball beat me to it!
Not every tartan can please everybody, I have a Prince of Wales too but am less keen on it than the Brithwe Dewi Sant (Wales National).
None of the family tartans on display on the Wales Tartan Centre site are "official" as such, but you might find one of them more to your liking ozone.

The Welsh National tartan I think Ozone is referring to is the original one from 1967.

Since the colors of those of the Welsh flag, green, red and white, that is why it can look "Christmassy" to some.
The version pictured is a custom weave using a sage green, which makes it look less Christmassy. House of Edgar stocks it in their Old & Rare range of medium weight cloth in two versions. The modern is a very straightforward green, red and white, and is probably the "Christmassy" version you have seen. They also do a muted version with a lighter shade of green and a purplish red.
Aye,
Matt

I think that older Welsh tartan looks pretty good. The tartan I was referring to a "Christmassy" is the St. David's Tartan.

I hadn't come across that one Matt!
As ozone said he had seen pictures I assumed he was referring to the St David's (Brithwe Dewi Sant) which is the one generally considered to be the National tartan of Wales.
Pictures such as a reprise of this one...
