Whatever the link was meant to do was lost on me - for some strange reason it needed to know my date of birth before I could enter then all it showed was a couple of short adverts for bottled beer.

These were meant to be a satire on those "unwritten laws" that govern men's behavior...the premise being that these "laws" are not actually unwritten and that there's a secret group of guys who draft them and a little old scribe guy with a big book who writes them down. The group is made up of men who are unquestionably "real men"...stock car drivers, rodeo cowboys, football (American) players, stand-up comedians (?) and, of course, that pinnacle of manliness, Burt Reynolds.
