Excellent pics. As Arlen said most of the scouts in Scotland wear kilts.

Nick, congratulations to your Mom! (And BTW you look great - it's so great you were able to attend the event!)

Just a bit of refinement to Nick's post for the non-US scouters, and non-scouters in the forum. The Silver Beaver award is the highest award a local Council (a geographical region - varies in size from one county to an entire state) can bestow upon an adult volunteer. In Nick's case, the council covers a fairly large area!

Hiawathaland Council is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and is geographically separated by the other councils in the state by the Great Lakes. Lake Superior is to the north. To the south is Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and the Straits of Mackinac which is where Lake Michigan and Lake Huron meet. Wisconsin is to the west and Canada is to the northeast.

So to Nick's Mom, a tip of the campaign hat and a thanks for so many years of "delivering the promise" to the young men and women whose lives you've touched.

As a former adult leader and father of two Eagle Scouts let me add my congratulations to your mother. I know just how much personal time and effort (and cash!) that goes into managing a successful scouting program. These awards are peer recognition and hard earned.

Thanks all, I'll pass on your congradulations to Mom. Her service to youth goes beyond Scouts, she also works with Head Start and other youth service programs in the area. Like Dale said, she's Mom to a lot of people.

LKC, your troop has a great website, I'll have to spend some time going through it. The local venture troop is coming to my blacksmith shop as an event later this spring.

Arlen, I've personally seen only one other person in my council wearing a kilt with the uniform (and it is a big council!), but I know there are others around the country, some of whom are XMarkers. But it's not very common.

I was a troop Historian for my troop that went to the 1981 National Scout Jamboree. We were the first to be at that site. I am also an Eagle Scout with gold palm.

Before women were awarded the Silver Beaver, the Award was the Silver Fawn. My mother was awarded the Silver Fawn as one of the first den mother's ever to earn it in the National Capitol area Council.
