Don't know that I have much in-depth info Dread, but my Dad converted a bus for camping purposes, and my wife and I almost bought one that was converted (with a wood burning stove!) about 10 years ago. My Dad also has owned a converted ambulance (think Ghostbusters type of ambulance).
