Question: couldn't you just put some electrical tape or something over the edge of the blade to keep from cutting yourself?

ATM I didn't want tape etc distorting the blade profile while I carve the sheath out. I'm doing the majority of the work with hand tools purely for my own satisfaction. Once the blade is fitted & I'm down to the polishing etc, I'll be masking the edge for sure. I've enjoyed this project so much, I'll be making a few others for close friends for the practice, then one for me, but that one I'll do entirely by hand with a blade beaten from carbon steel. I'd like to get a feel of what it must have been like for my ancestors.
