			Tybee Island

After visiting the fort, we continued our drive over to Tybee Island. This sits off the coast of Georgia in the Atlantic ocean and has some really nice beaches. As we visited during the middle of the week, most of the folks on the beach were locals from the local college.

			Fort Jackson

On the way back to Savannah, we came across a roadside sign pointing to Fort Jackson. Being as we were in no particular hurry, we decided to take a side trip. Driving by the ports and the industrial facilities, we came across the fort. After fort Pulaski fell to the union, the confederacy strengthened the defenses on the Savannah river. Fort Jackson was key to this defense. However, the fort fell during Shermans march to the sea without a shot being fired as the confederacy abandoned it.

Looks like a great trip Mike!
I love Pulaski! It's a great place to hang out for hours as it's seldom very crowded. Another good one, but smaller is in Beaufort NC.

I've got video and photos of a little gator in Pulaski's moat from about 12 years ago, probably that little guys Daddy

I was just about to ask if you went to Fort Jackson
Another good one though considerably smaller. They were doing archaeological digs there last time I went. We even got to see (and HEAR) the big canon fired by a group of re-enactors. Very cool.
Looks like awesome weather to be there.

			Our day in Savannah

After a day on Tybee Island and a good nights rest, we decided to take on Savannah. The morning was spent with an overview tour provided by one of the many touring companys and the afternoon was spent wandering around the historic district with dinner on the river.
The first stop was the Savannah history museum

What is the South without mint juleps and magnolias?

 And paddle wheel steamers??

As strange as it sounds, the port of Savannah is the second busiest on the eastern seaboard!

Finally, a shot of river street. Sorry guys, I was there to eat not take photos. Some of the characters would of made great shots!

The drive home - High Falls State Park

After eating like wild swines while we were in Savannah, we decided on the drive home to take a small hike. There is a small state park right off of the expressway on the way home. High Falls state park is the site of an old grain and lumber mill. The stream was dammed by the owner of the mill and all that is left after 100 years is the dam and the foundations of the mill.
