I second this idea for practical reasons. It doesn't take much to put the pleats in, and you can fasten it with velcro for a resonable "kilt" that will grow with the lad for a few years. Slap on a belt and a wee sporran (you can make a pretty good one of those with a leather change purse), and it'll do fine. AND, it'll match Dad.

By saving all that money, you can afford a real kilt for his Papa!

    child's kilt

Hello, I purchased a Black Stewart on E-BAY a few years ago for my then 8 year old. He is still wearing it. Lovely kilt. Came from England and was less than $10 plus shipping.

Thanks to you all for your kind advice!

    a

My wife has wanted to get a sewing machine for some time, so we went out yesterday and got one, and I have already started on my first project: A solid colour casual based on the X-Kilt, but with traditional leather straps and a slightly wider apron. I bought some heavy cotton drill for $6 per metre, and there is enough for two kilts for my son and one for me. Unfortunately, we were unable to find "dark blue" so I managed to convince him that teal would look great.

After I've completed this project I'll probably try my hand at a Cornish National tartan for him so he can match my tank. My 8 y.o. daughter has already put in an order with me for a Cornish National shawl, so I can see I'm going to be busy.

Thanks once again for all the tips, links and advice - I'm so glad I found this forum! You guys Rock!

    Regards,

    Troy
