Review of the "Kilter Roll" kilt carrier

Just back from a trip to the (US) West Coast... missed being a party to/spectator of the early Sunday morning gas truck fire and meltdown of I-580/I-880 in Oakland, California by 15 minutes! (For once my timing was good!)




Ah, but that's not the subject of this thread!

This small but mighty package successfully kept my kilt safe, dry, and unwrinkled on two cross-country flights this past week!

The Kilter Roll has three components - the outer case, a carrying strap (detachable), and an inner cloth that has a stiffener bar along one outer edge (shown below).



It's pretty simple to use (which is a big benefit for me)! Just lay the kilt out on the inner cloth (as shown)...



And begin to roll (from the side with the stiffener bar), making sure you don't roll any huge creases or wrinkles in as you go...



Once you have the kilt rolled up on the inner cloth, you merely insert it into the end of the outer case...



...and once it's fully inserted, zip the outer case up, and you're ready to go!

At your destination, merely reverse the steps and voila! Your kilt is there ready to go. (The stiffener bar on the inner cloth makes the whole thing work, IMO - it keeps the kilt from shifting around within the carrier and bunching up on itself.)

You can use the Kilter Roll by itself, or as an inner carrier for a larger piece of luggage, but either way I think you'd be satisfied with the results!

(I would NOT recommend using the Kilter Roll for long-term storage, however - of course, the manufacturer doesn't recommend it for that, either.)

Second... Great review! I saw them at a trade show in Glasgow and want to carry them in our shop, but the cost was a bit high. If you don't mind my asking, what did you pay for it?

I supposed it's a good piece if you're carrying one kilt. But, what if you are Hamish or Ron going on holiday? Then what??

Thanks for posting that. I had been considering one of these for an upcoming trip but could not find an US provider. At this point, I have enough points on Scotweb but don't want to pay the customs.

I got mine for right around $35 (all fees included). I must dig through my shipping records to make sure I have the right vendor, however. I was REALLY not going to pay $65 or more for one, though.

You just back up the custom-built lorry (Ham) or jeep (Ron) and load them in to the climate-controlled storage area. Or you pare down your list.

I carried two kilts in it with no ill effects - not sure it would take three, though...

The one I have measures 29.5" in length and 5" in diameter.
