Properly made army-style trews in HEAVY tartan do look fantastic. Mine were made by tartanweb.com out of House of Edgar tartan. I really miss them!
Trews offer a less expensive, but just as traditional, alternative to the kilt as it's easy to dress up for white tie dinners, and dress doon for the games. All you need to do is change your shirt, jacket, tie and shoes per event. No light hose for daywear, dark hose for evening wear, or pricey tartan hose for formal wear. The same goes for sporrans!
This will certainly sound like blasphemy for many Xmarkers, but if you want to go traditional but don't have the money for an 8-yard or historical 4-5 yard boxpleated kilt, sporrans and accessories; trews, in my opinion are the way to go!
