I broke down and bought a digi camera instead of ordering another Freedom Kilt (sorry Steve). Now I can complete a review with piccies.

Front view (shirt is from What Price Glory - Indiana Jones collection that I ordered to compliment this kilt):

Found the front pockets, they are much deeper than shown. Kilt appears a little long but have a fair amount of weight in pockets and have lost some girth since ordering.

    The obligatory pleat shot.

Please note the alternating colour of the pleats that appear as sun beams. A happy accident or Steve got a little creative? Whichever it was I really enjoy the contrast and it really draws the eye to the pleats.

    Shot of the cargo pockets:

These provide ample storage (enough for 3 bottles o' beer, don't ask me how I know). Since they are only attached at the top all the contents are held away from the leg and can comfortable hold stuff better than cargo pockets on trousers. On the Freedom Kilt all the weight is supported higher up at the bottom of the fell, on trousers the bottom of the pocket takes all the weight and tends to pull from there.

    My concerns.

    The flag:

I had my concerns about this. Don't get me wrong I just love this detail as for it's permanence I'll just have to see.

    The buttons:

From the right hip. Note how the buttons are nicely seated. Also note my hand in the pocket, this is with fingers extended. they are deep pockets, about 12" deep.

    T'other buttons:

Out of focus but it shows how these buttons stand off. It may just be me being too critical. And please disregard the view of the laundry room at the back.

    Same buttons, different angle:

To be fair here is a different angle and the standoff is less noticeable. Also the front slash pockets are right behind them so sinking these buttons might not be possible without deleting the oh so valuable front pockets.

My complaints are minor, perhaps anal. They will not stop me from ordering another Freedom Kilt and another after that (only the wife could do that)! It is still a well built, well designed garment. It fits as it should and I'm confident that it will take years of wear and occasional abuse. It is this that first attracted me to FK, it is for outdoor use, for hiking, camping and working. Unlike wool it's washable and with it's sewn pleats and poly/cotton construction it will require minimal attention. In the camouflage it sure looks as rugged as it is.

    Just Ordered Mine

    Great thread and pics.

Just ordered mine from Steve. Found him to be very professional. Given his stated past profession, I am really looking forward to this kilt. Steve takes more measurements than anyone else we have found so far.

Last purchase was off the rack from another outfit.

This fatman ain't no off the rack fit.

6-8 weeks seems like forever to get one that fits right, so this kilted man will just have to torture the locals with my ill fitting off the rack model for not having a good kiltmaker locally.

This thread makes me believe that it will be worth the wait.
