Suits Jackets With Kilts

I don't think it would work. A suit jacket is normally tailored to a longer length compared to a kilt jacket. I've tried on a blue blazer with a navy blue kilt at home to see whether they would make an alternative business suit to the black argyle jacket/black kilt combination which I often wear to work, but the blue blazer being intended for wear with trousers just didn't look right with a kilt.

As has been said; don't do it. You should be able to find both a store selling inexpensive tweed sports coats, and a good tailor in the NYC area. Buy a tweed sports coat, and have it shortened. Remember to wear the kilt when you bring the coat to the tailor so he can mark the coat so it doesn't hang over the pleats.
