    It might be worthwhile making the point the the weaver by an large decides on how the edge of the fabric is woven, a clean selvedge- that doesn't need to be hemmed takes a little longer to set up. I'm sure that some weavers could produce a clean selvedge on any fabric if asked/or they thought it economic.
    The important thing to bear in mind that there isn't a quality issue here, just slightly different finishes

    One's spelled with a K the other with a C. That's a structural difference!!

    Cilt's lean a little to the right. Sriously it's just the spelling of the Welsh language is quite interesting in that it has 136 characters and not a single vowel. Oh and the Welsh can't really understand each other it only appears that they're nodding in conversation because they're actually shivering. It very cold in Wales and rains a lot. I hope I was able to clear up any confusion.

    Kilt is worth more on a scrabble board.

    K=5
    I=1
    L=1
    T=1

    C=3
    I=1
    L=1
    T=1

    Not necessarily a dead end. If he has a male line descendant (that is, if he had a son who had a son who had a son, etc.), that man's Y chromosome can be tested by the folks at www.ftdna.com, the genealogical genetic testing company with the largest database, and compared with that of other men. There may be a match or a close match that could prove helpful.

    From what I've read, the only difference is a hem, & a slightly lighter weight (13oz). Of course, that was online...

    I have always been under the impression that Cilt was the Welsh spelling, and Kilt was the Scottish. The garment is the same. I have kilts that are hemmed, and others that are not. Depends on who made them.

    'Tis true only our Welsh members spell it cilt. So when McClef comes a visiting to Canada SOKS will change it's name to SOCS in his honour.

    True story in rhyme

    I met a man in Memphis and a man from Wales was he
    He emailed me today about the tale of k and c
    "In Wales" he said "we spell it cilt instead of kilt you see"
    Because in Welsh we have no letter "k" and so instead use "c"

    This man of short acquaintance also wondered why the Scots
    Spell kilt with "k" when to his knowledge Gaelic has it not
    Says I "you're right, in Gaelic kilt is feilidh, (mhor of less)
    Mayhap we blame the English as the authors of the mess.

    Still waiting on a reply, but if I ever get to Wales I'll look him up. I hope his wife got the beer out of her clothes. (sorry ma'am).

    And by the way, I do have long legs and I know I'm a poet.
