You think this law is ridiculous, but only because you havent been paying attention. Give it time, and pretty soon threads even talking about seal skin sporrans will be banned at X Marks.

Heck, I'll probably have this post erased and a PM in my inbox just for reminding people where the original of this phrase came from.

They can have my sporran when they pry it from my cold, dead crotch!

Kilt wearers face a sporran licence
    Sunday, June 24, 2007

Kilt wearers could find themselves facing prosecution if they do not have a licence for sporrans made from animals, it emerged.

Under new legislation which has been introduced in Scotland people wearing any part of a protected animal need to obtain a licence.

The laws have been drawn up to protect endangered species like badgers and otters, whose fur used to be favoured by sporran makers.

The legislation applies to animals killed after 1994.

People who apply for a licence must prove that the animal was killed lawfully before they will be able to get one.

The maximum penalties are a £5,000 fine and six months in prison.

A spokesman for the Scottish Executive however stressed that the law was not aimed at sporran wearers.

He said: "This legislation is not about sporrans, it is about protecting endangered wildlife. It has been brought in to comply with EU law. Legally produced items will not be affected."

The rules also apply to other vulnerable animals like deer, wildcats, hedgehogs, bats, lynx, moles, seals, whales, dolphins and porpoises and also cover fishing flies made from animal hair.
