However, It is STILL protected specifically by laws that do effectively the same thing. Also, there are several types of eagles. I think there are a species or 2 that are not protected. I may be wrong, however.

    What Gilmore said,

Even if the eagle just made it off the endangered species list I don't think that means they can be killed.

The exceptions to possession of eagle feather's being a crime is with Native Americans and living in "Indian Country" for the last 35 years I can tell you they are VERY VERY vigilant and become quite riled when they think a non-Native American has an eagle feather...I even gave up on the faux eagle feathers...

For Panache - Have you considered a macaw tail feather?? They are sold for Native American Church ceremony but I don't think the NAC members object to other uses....??

One of the trading posts here sells them if you've an interest.

They come in lots of colors....all bright!

I've seen many of Native American Indians with eagle feathers... I don't think wearing feathers is going to land one in jail or fined.

"I Suspect".....The feathers could either come from fallen eagles (eagles that have died naturally) or from fallen feathers. Say from a habitat area...

No majestic birds need be murdered.

Yup, real eagle feathers are legal for Native Americans to own and posess, always was an exception to the law.

They are, as far as I know, STILL illegal in the posession of anyone without a Certificate of Indian Blood. And the penalties are/were severe.

Kind of like peyote/mescaline. Illegal for anyone one to posess without a Native American Church membership card, and then only in sacramental quantities.

Great... I was wondering....? I wonder about a Scottish Armiger living in the USA? They wear eagle feathers to the games. Must not be strictly enforced. Oh, well. Thanks for the info Riverkilt!!

    Eagle Feathers

Eagle feathers are one of those things that is protected by a buncha severe laws but the Federal Game Wardens don't want to be bothered enforcing it.

I had a bald eagle drop into my lap a year or two ago, road kill in front of my house, I called the local Animal Control, they did not want it, Called State fish and game, they didn't want it, called the federals, they refused to come out. The Feds are supposed to come get it and hold the feathers for Native Americans to decrease poaching. They could not be bothered.

My wife is an Indian so we packed the bird in Ice and gave it to her tribe. God only knows what they did with it. Now if we sold it on eBay the Feds would have a cow.

I suspect that if you were to wear a turkey buzzard feather which is not endangered nor protected you would end up in prison.

Just go with turkey or rock dove.
