At the beginning of this year I went through my 2006 list of local highland games, checked their websites for 2007 dates, and published them via PM to the Nor-Cal Rabble. It was the brilliant walkerk who took that list and entered it into the XMarks calendar for all to see, with links to the websites and the California notation for instant recognition. He also posted our regular monthly kilt night on the last Friday of every month; those probably need the California or SF Bay Area notation since there are a LOT of bay areas around the world.
Sometimes the games organizers don't update their websites until a couple months before the event, but a "cruise director" (or an assistant cruise director, or anyone, for that matter) could check them periodically for updates and redo the calendar entry.
The regular reminder posts are good, too.
