					Cavscout and all Others,
I will be going on a cruise in Nov. and am trying to figure out a way to wear my kilt that won't breal my budget. The Eton jacket on the Uniformalwearhouse.com website has a shawl collar, rather than a regular lapel.

How do you think the shawl collar would adapt for use with a kilt? I know it's not a P.C., but the pricing is attractive.

 And the budget is thin.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. If I could look anyhere near as good as Cavscout looks I wold truly be a happy man.

 Cheers,

I think it's fine. What you end up with is something more like the Irish Brian Baru jacket instead of a PC, but it's equally as formal.

Just fine! Compare tuxedos at any black-tie event: some will have notch lapels, some will have shawl collars. I'm an old fogie, so mine have shawl collars---both the one I bought last year, and the one I bought used in 1970. My guess is that the Eton jacket will fit right in.

While the shawl collar in itself is probably fine, my bigger aversion to the ones on uniformal are that they are tailored to be buttoned. The PC is tailored to be worn unbuttoned.
PC's can be rented from several places at decent rates. I found several places when I was planning my cruise that offered "cruise packages".

The other consideration is that "Formal Night" on a cruise is typically going to be a lot of dark suits instead of the Black Tie we see in the old movies. If you were to pick up a dark jacket from a thrift store and have it tailored, you would look better than a majority of the people on the cruise and have a versatile jacket you can wear for many other occasions after the cruise as well.

Also keep in mind that the dress codes for the various cruise nights are only suggestions. I wore a suit and tie on the formal and semi-formal nights. Honestly half the people there didn't bother.
