[QUOTE=Alan H;402866]I've been under the impression that an alternative to the Montrose Doublet and Prince Charlie was to wear a black potain jacket, perhaps with slashed sleeves, or a "Swordsmans" jacket with a nice white Jacobite shirt. this is paired up with a tartan kilt, belt, dress sporrtan, good quality hose and probably ghillie brogues or possibly buckle brogues.
[QUOTE]
If you want to dress up a bit without going the full black tie bit they look very effective but I don't think you could ever consider them as as alternative to formal jackets such as the Montrose or PC. I keep banging on about this but a Sherriffmuir does exactly the same thing and can be worn from really formal through to smart casual so why buy a whole lot of jackets? And even more important, it caters for the growing (or shrinking) beer gut no problem so you don't need to worry about having to buy a new one every so often.
Here it is for casual day/evening wear -
and if you want to look more dressy -
same jacket just different accessories.
