Short synopsis: as frequently happens in fantasy tales, the world is menaced by an ancient evil. A kindly witch sends brownies out to find a knight who can rescue Merlin (who should be able to set things right). In the castle above the small town of Strathgow, an American physicist is working on his robot. The crates are labeled as containing "MACHINERY" which leads Angus, the brownie, to assume the robot is a wee knight named MacHinery . . .
The book is very English-friendly---references to William Wallace being tortured, and Robert the Bruce expelling those who attempted to conquer Scotland, only mention "the enemy" and never quite spell out who that was.
