The irony of kilts for me is that they're warm in winter and cool in summer. Go figure.
I'm an olde Alabama boy that's traveled the South and sure know what you're talking about. My suggestion would be polyviscose kilts for that time of year.
But know you've some kilted brothers who live around there too. Hopefully they'll share their suggestions.
