I'll have to ask my girlfriend to take a look at it. That sounds like a doable thing, maybe. What do you do about the straps and buckles, though?

You would be adding the pleat from the beginning of the apron and not the end of it, so the buckles "should" be fine. I'm not wearing a kilt right now so I don't know if this is truly possible or not. If it doesn't work you could always use a seam ripper and take off the buckels and reattach them. Just a thought.

Well Being the girlfriend. I would say I'm up for the pleats but it might cost ya a Bottle of 15 year Cask Rum to get me going! at 1 for each kilt by the time he drop s three sizes I should be well toasted
