Well, I wear a greasy ball cap everyday... makes the best sweat rag or fan. But, as you said, that would only work for the most casual of occasions.

    J. Byous Co. advertises a "tropical weight summer wool" unlined balmoral on their web site. I have one of their caubeens which I'm quite happy with.

I have a straw "panama" hat that I bought at the San Jose Flea Market for... I think $1.50. I've had it for years. It looks good, keeps the sun off, and its loose weave gives plenty of air flow.

Me, I have a lightweight scally cap. Works great. My heads been bald since I was 18, and I prolly sunburn it al LEAST once a year. You look kinda dorky swimming with a hat on... ;)

I'm partial to fedoras. I need a light weight one, my every day hat is a little heavy for hot summer weather. Panama straw fedoras are also an option, but I don't fancy them myself. I'm more of a wool felt guy.

Since I shave my dome, I usually wear a hat. In the past it has been a Guiness ball cap. I also on occasion wear either a herringbone wool Irish styled hat, but it is very hot during the summer months. At this summers Potomac Celtic Festival, I opted for no hat with a lot of #70 sunscreen. I came through that one in good shape (no sunburned dome), but it was a bit inconvenient refreshing the sunblock several times during the day.
