That makes two of us. I've always held the philosophy that the only dumb question is the one you dont ask. Now some questions dont merit a serious answer, and many questions can be avoided with a humorus answer if you dont want to spend time to think out a right answer. ... But unless someone is being rude, I've no problem with anyone asknig any questions

That makes three of us! I've found that very frequently, folks are intrigued, and want to know about tartans, clan tartans, history of the kilt, and so forth. Lots of people are surprised when I point out that Texas has it's own official state tartan. I figure it's a "share the love" type thing. I get a kick out of kilts, and I'm happy to share the love with others. (So to speak.)

The only question I ever seem to get asked is "What tartan is that?". Maybe you should be glad they show a bit more interest in your "equipment".

It's pretty much the same here, Phil. In fact, I really do not think I have been asked any questions regarding the kilt or its accessories for maybe a year or more! Occasionally statements are made - such as "I like your kilt" and "That is a beautiful kilt", but questions are seldom asked. It's probably the British reserve; on the whole, we do not speak to strangers unless we are lost and require directions - I know I don't!!

Wheras I was once asked by an ex-girlfriend, "Don't you ever not talk to strangers?!" I simply wasn't raised to consider strangers dangerous. Everyone's just a friend I haven't met yet.

Which brings us back to questions -- I never mind people asking me questions about my kilt. Well. I usually don't mind... sometimes I'm in a hurry, for whatever reason, and really don't have the time to discuss the life kilted.

Oh, nor was I. The possibility of strangers being dangerous is a comparatively modern conception. I'd say that here it is more a matter of politeness that you do not directly engage strangers on the street in conversation. It being different, of course, if the stranger is a travelling companion whom you might be sitting next to for several hours!
