I will ask my wife and kids if we are going somewhere together. My wife usually doesn't care, as well as my 8 and 9 year olds. My 15 year old daughter on the other hand isn't quite as ok with it, so I choose not to wear it if she prefers. My work has no problem with the kilt, so I am good there. Everyone else can buzz off. Heck, I wear my kilt into a local "country" bar with no problems! Anywho....

In the world of paying your bills, discretion is the better part, etc. When I represent my agency at a public meeting I wear pants, because the issues before the public are what should get the attention, and I don't need to be a lightning rod that unnecessarily conducts negative energy back to management.

Don't let it bother you. The ancient, identifiable garment of the Celts was... (wait for it)...TROUSERS!! Considered oh, so barbaric by the bare-legged Greeks and Romans. Kilts evolved in a only tiny corner of Celtdom: the highlands of Scotland. So, get in touch with your inner barbarian (Vikings favored 'em, too!) by wearing (gasp!)...trousers...!

Some good feedback here. Really don't mind for a day, and this fellow's issues aside - it is a training day. Since we are training on a _gasp_ *new*system* (Father deliver me, I walk amongst the {L}users now) there is something to be said for not distracting from the subject matter.

This lot of point and clickers really needs all the instruction they can get, wouldn't be right to bring distractions to the class. When you are dealing with people who can't tell the difference between an ISP and an application, the kilt will puzzle and amaze them.

In a perfect world, Ozman would take the shelelia to any idiot who couldn't run raw sql in a command line..... Oh well, what dreams may come.

Lew, I shall take comfort in your words. Tomorrow I shall be free, whilst they will still be split-tails.

I was just wondering what thoughts more sane (or insane) folks than me had about "going undercover" for a day. Thanks all.

I was in Mexico a couple of years ago staying in an all exclusive resort for twa wks. I was on ma way tae a speciality resturaunt in the resort wearing ma kilt, a was refused entry. Why? because there is a dress code nae shorts allowed, go pit lang troosers on. After ten mins explaining this my national dress, a walked awa made a complaint, as i was insulted. Cut a lang story short, a wis given an apology fae management, free passes tae speciality resturaunts (never went, matter of principle) and the dress code as far as kilts are concerned, ALLOW IN!!!

    Regrets

Well, I dutifully wore p*nts today. I did drill that "professional dress" mandate squarely in the end zone by wearing my Modern Macbeth necktie.

Turns out I should have worn the kilt. Both the vendor trainer and our corporate trainer said it would be fine. Came up when one o' the lads asked me why I was wearing p*nts.

The instructor kept coming back to the topic for comic relief, should have just worn it. I am sure the District Manager appreciates my gesture though. Tomorrow - Free again!
