BEEDEE has hit the nail on the head with the turtleneck. Especially the heavier ribbed ones. It really goes wonderfully with tweed and I would think a white or grey one would go with a black or charcoal Argyle very well. I picked up a black Braemar at the Pleasanton Games and have been pondering options. I might venture a short sleeved polo with a tweed kilt jacket, or maybe a navy blue Argyle (maybe). But I think in general you need a long sleeved shirt for an Argyle in black. There is always the very Panache-like option of wearing a long sleeve dress shirt with an open collar.
