    That's quite a nice pin! I feel it could be worn casual or dress.. depending on the other accessories of course.

    I examined a pin exactly like that at an antiques fair today but decided against purchasing it.

    Your pin is perfectly suitable for wear on any occasion, casual or formal. Personally, I would not wear a real claw - instead, I have three of these metal versions, each with different colour stones which I colour co-ordinate with the kilt:
