In defense of the kilt
So, as I have mentioned before, I have a few friends who have a very strong anti-kilt mentality. And even though I don't actually have my kilt yet, it still comes up fairly often and we have some rather interesting arguments.
Well, on wednesday, IV (a college group we all belong to) held the annual bonfire in order to welcome incoming students. I was there working the fire, and meeting some of the new people, when one of my kilt hating friends started making jokes about my mental stability. OK, so maybe I was moving burning logs with my bare hands, but no harm no foul, right?
So in response, I mentioned that she was the one who had an irrational fear of men's clothing (specifically, kilts). She replied "men shouldn't wear a dress" and immediately, four guys who were standing around the fire objected, and began to grill her about her disrespect for kilts. One of them even corrected me when I jokingly said that "it's not a dress, it's a skirt"
I was really quite surprised. Up until now all I had heard from people around here was curiosity ("why would you want to wear a kilt?") or rejection ("kilts are morally wrong and evil") so when four total strangers stood up for the kilt, I almost didn't believe it.
I'm not even wearing a kilt yet and already the response is positive.

Is IV similar to IVF (secret code to get past mods)?
My good buddy is head of IVF here, I've worn kilts around him and his family and shared events. She's the one who has to adjust not us. More so if she is supposed to be welcoming as a rep for IV.

Actually IV is short for IVCF. The group itself has no official policy about kilts (as far as I know, it's never come up) but the chapter president (a friend of mine and the source of the "evil" quote) wants to have a new rule requiring knee length shorts beneath the kilt. Luckily he doesn't have the authority so I can wear whatever I want and there is nothing he can do about it.

And I guess women should be banned from wearing jeans and required to wear high-button collars and ankle length skirts, or perhaps birquas?
