I've been to a Hindu wedding also, in India. I was dragged off the street and asked to sit up on the "stage" for the wedding. I think there was an idea that a white guy there would add "importance" to the wedding (not that I thought of it that way).
Given that most Indian men (in the South of India) wear unbifurcated clothing, I would be surprised if the kilt was not accepted.

Yes, indeed! Also kilted soldiers were stationed in India within living memory for some older people.

After the article appeared in the Sunday paper, I was asked why I didn't wear my kilt to church on the next sunday. I slept tooo late and did not have time to get dressed. I just threw on a pair of jeans and a t shirt and raced into town. Many people asked about the kilt. Then I sat down with our temporary pastor, (Episcopalian) and just about have her talked into a Kirkin'. I go to a Lutheran church. Sooooooo, Is any body in the Westminster area up for a Kirkin'? Let me know. Pastor is interested. She likes Scotch.

Since the question is about kilts in church I wonder why so many people who never darken the door of such a place find it necessary to comment about how they don't. Just curious.

I was planning to wear my kilt to my church, but after reading an article Matt wrote for his website about why he does not wear his kilt to church, I decided to refrain from wearing my kilt to church. I agree with the main point of his article where the kilt would distract.

Wore my kilt last night to our local synagogue for Rosh Hashanah service. Got more questions about why my leg is in a cast than why am I wearing a kilt, but the Temple President took me to task for being "improperly dressed" as I chose not to wear a sgian dubh.

I've worn mine only once (stillwater Nightstalker) to midnight mass-Christmas, I was held mostly by candle light, since i sit in the back row of the choir, on the side altar... it was not seen. After mass our Pastor came over and said "nice kilt" I would have said Merry Christmas in Scottish if I knew it (he did a Christmas Greeting in 8 different languages )
So I told him for next year!

I've had nothing but a positive, accepting experience. The folks I've dealt with see past the outward appearance and value me for who I am.. not what I wear

shhh, don't stir it up. I'm surprised the mods have let this continue. We must be really behaving ourselves.

Why we would we interupt what has been a very pleasant discussion?
