I think I know who you did it for, too. IIRC, I sent you that cloth - it came off the same roll as what I have here.

    did you take pix.

no, unfortunately I didn't take pics... The first one was for his dad, not him. The second one (to be done in 6 weeks and counting) is for him.

    Here's another alternative.

The dark green stripe is a bit more than 3/4" wide. Given the size of the sett (4"), it would be easy to get enough pleats to have the pleats be no more than 3/4" wide. This would make the back of the kilt very green. That's the option that Turpin shows in his pics.

If you doubled the sett in each pleat, you'd need a lot of fabric to get pleats 3/4" wide. On the other hand, you could use a reasonable amount of fabric (could even be done with the 6 yards that Turpin has) and choose to make half as many quite large pleats. If the pleats were at least an inch and a quarter across, there would be a nice red stripe down each side of the green. I think that would look dandy, myself.

That sounds like a good option. the decision to make is this, then, for me. I have 5 meters double-width. I have an XMTS member fair slavering to get 2 from me. I can accomodate him if I go with Barb's suggestion, and defray some of the cost to me (an attractive option). Or go for the full tank with the narrower pleats. I guess I'll play with the clot some more to look at what Barb is talking about and make the call.
