Eton Jacket modification Status

I'm currently bidding an a RN mess jacket. I believe it is double breasted and I actully considering leaving thus. Being a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary I figure why not. I do not know if I shall remove both rank bars or just the top one as my own rank I wear one gold shoulder bar. I will probably switch out the gold button to black. Suggestions?

Looks like it would work well for formal wear with a kilt. The only problem may be the size. Mess jackets are usually tailored to the owner. So, its dimensions may not be the same as a standard jacket.
