Just to add a late choice.
As long as I don't have to buy it by the case, nothing can beat Bruichladdich.

I like Lagavulin too.
For an "inexpensive" single malt, 10 year old Glenmorangie is a pretty good buy. Also if you like Islays, the McClelland's Islay is not bad (it's actually Bowmore re-branded), half the price of the Lagavulin, and more than half as good.
