			 2 X-Kilts and a proud son

Ok that was tough getting the picture to finally show. Not sure how I got this to show but I hope whatever I did I can do again.

  Success!

Several weeks ago I wrote with questions about finishing my first X-kilt. I thought I should share pictures. Alan H. and the F-HCAG both were very helpful and I could not have done it without them. Hands down Alan's X-kilt instructions are the best how to's I have seen. I still think I solved the over apron/under apron differently but it works. I had to trim a diagonal notch off of the top of the front underapron so that the hook and loop could match up but like I said it works.

It was very pleasurable project for me.
I was able to get out and use my mothers old (circa 1960?) Singer model 603. The long ago but fimiliar sounds of the sewing machine brought back memories of watching or working on projects with my mother who has since past away. Even ripping out the couple of seams was ok because of these memories. Thanks Alan H. and F-HCAG for this experience. It was a wonderful feeling to be that close to my mother again. It has been some time.
Now once I finished and I was modeling my kilt hot of the ironing board, my son said "when are you going make my kilt Daddy?" How could I refuse!!! With a couple of adjustments the X-kilt plans I made him a matching kilt. We wore them to a big local crafts fair. We fit in pretty well as there were many others in kilts (pipe and drum band, some reinactors). Got a couple of compliments on the matching kilts too.

Now I am working on my #2 X-kilt in blue denim (probably son's blue denim kilt as well). And I am beginning to understand my mother's obsession with buying fabric. I keep on looking at all kinds of fabric wondering "I wonder it that would make a nice kilt". I am trying to find some suitable wicking fabric for a runner's kilt. I'd like something along the lines of my SK hiker.

I think my goal is to have an entire kilt ensemble that I have made myself. I am working on my sgian with sheath next followed by a sporran. I think that I will make the handle in osage orange and try an inlay of a celtic cross in walnut.

 Thanks again.
