The stain goes on a purple color and dries a nice

I apply 2-3 coats and let it dry over night

Final finish is given using 0000 steel wool dipped in linseed oil
rub it on and buff until you get a shade darker than you want to finished product to be as it will wear lighter over time and use

I also warmed up the blade a lilttle with a propane touch and applied a cold blue solution you can by at any sporting goods shop

this gives it an antique appearance

The only thing left to do is sharpen the blade and make a sheath.

I did the sheath lay out earlier after I had roughed out the bolster

By the way this sgian needs a home and will be ready to ship after the sheath is completed. if your interested PM me

Wow, very nice. Do you make muzzleloaders as well? I also am an 18th century guy. I am going to try my hand at making a matching dirk and sgian. I read your profile- what do you teach? (I am a fifth grade teacher).
    Thanks for the tutorial!
