Yes it always feels terrible, and anger is the result, at least for me. This is pretty typical though, cash, loose change, and small stuff easily sold that is current and cool.
Same thing happened to me several years ago. I even think I know who did it, but there is no way to prove it. Better security may help, but if they really want in, they will get in. Normally this kind of thing does not happen when one is home, confrontation is not desireable from the thief's point of view, either.
They took a VCR I had purchase second hand for $20, and my kids piggy banks, a bit over $400, mostly in small bills and change. And yes, most people do keep their stuff in similar places, and the thieving b******s know where to look.
