Ceilidh in Edinburgh

Well I have been beaten with the pictures!

I have to agree the band wasn't brilliant and not up to the usual standard and very limited in the dances - like The Gay Gordons 4 times!

No band has offered an Eightsome Reel since I started attending!

Alan's lovely sporran developed a technical problem - it fell off!

Thanks for the kind comments upon my elegance. I wore my Cornish National tartan as I had acquired a plaid for it at a reasonable price. It was my first plaid purchase and I wanted to see how it looked compared with a PC alone. Even though I say so myself I thought it looked pretty good and it was certainly the most formal I had ever been. For most of the evening I had to take it off because of the heat but somehow they finally managed to turn the air conditioning on!

As to the tie - I know some think that only a black bow tie is good enough to wear with a PC and there have been previous discussions about it. I have four of what are called "scrunchie cravats" in different colours that can co-ordinate with different tartans. I obtained mine from "satin designs" on ebay.

I hope that it shows that there is a viable alternative to the boring old black bow ties!

I got a lot of compliments for the tie and also the hose which you have seen on previous photos.

It was great to see so many kilts in one place too, a pity the lighting didn't help them to be seen to full advantage.

Well I thought I may as well put my Ceilidh pictures in this thread!

My friend Andrew and I on the staircase of the Assembly Rooms in George St where the Ceilidh was held.

This gentleman was completely swathed in tartan - reminded me of some of those old paintings you see.

I am a proud wearer of the Cornish National myself, and it is wonderful to see it worn formally - you certainly cut a dash!

I will be wearing it again in November in Newquay, Cornwall, both formally and informally and I hope it looks as good in the land of St Pirran as it did in Edinburgh.

As Trefor mentioned in his post on this thread my pink & black sporran developed a "technical fault" during a very hectic dance, and it fell to the ground. I sent an email to Robert at RKilts, who made the sporran ( and at very short notice, I may add), with a couple of suggestions for future models.

Hde has sent me a replacement spirran, incorporating the suggestions, and a very good job he has made of it.

I am very pleased to give Robert and R Kilts a huge THANK YOU for such fast and efficient service.

If only it were so with other suppliers.......
