New Kathy Lare just arrived!
This, to be my "nice" kilt. A true TANK. 8 yards of House of Edgar 13oz muted MacNaughton, military pleated to the stripe. It's amazing. Kathy is a great lady to work with, and has credentials "lang's me arm". check out www.kathyskilts.com if you're looking for a nice one at a very competitive price.

Could you post a better lit picture of the pleats themselves? I'm very interested in military box pleats. How about a review of the kilt?

Actually, it's knife pleated. The "military" adjective refers to pleating to stripe vs. sett. If you're interested in box pleats you need to check out Matt Newsome's stuff. Just do a search on "box pleat" or "Newsome", and you'll be well rewarded. The "Scottish Tartans Museum" banner logo takes you to his stuff, too.

Military box pleats are really knife pleats with the leading edge folded back. Matt makes traditional box-pleats, which are very different.

Beautiful work, lovely tartan wscottmac. I had a chance to meet Kathy Lare at the Stone Mountain games (she says Hi, Ron). A very nice lady.
One thing she and Jerry at SWK both mentioned to me about the MBP versus simple knife pleat is that it takes a bit more care when pressing because you are dealing with a fold in two directions for each pleat (3 if you count the inner pleat). Kathy Lare is the only kiltmaker on this side of the pond (except, perhaps, Robert Macdonald of West Coast Kilts - I don't know) who does the MBP. It adds $100 to the cost of the kilt. Only you can decide if it's worth it. I'm not sure just how I'd get into a car with it. Would you need to sweep pleats in two directions simultaneously?

Where 4 Scotsmen gather there'll usually be a fifth.

slohairt, nailed it below. And, as-a-matter-of-fact, Kathy Lare is the lady to talk to about "military box pleats" if that's something you desire.

Bravo!
A work of art indeed! Can one assume that it is the the McNaughton tartan?
