I think it's great! Sounds like some of the older types of pipes! The only problem is that he tends to lose air pressure when he breathes. He should try making a more solid valve, other wise it's fantastic.

Check out this site. Julian makes some fantastic pipes that people don't even realize exist.

With a little bit more work on his valve, that would be a nice addition to non-traditional music.

The pipes drew me to kilts

I'll second this one. I never even paid a kiltie two cents worth of attention until after I began playing the pipes... now you can't get me off the pipes or out of a kilt. Funny how things work out in life.

Are there any good Rock bands that utilize the pipes and what are their names...I would like to hear some?

Chase, there's the Dropkick Murphys and The Tossers. They use both flute and pipes, though they're not main instruments all the time.


As for the pipes, I love them if they're played well and not overdone. I don't think riffing on a set of bagpipes like you would on a guitar sounds good. But the pipes played well can bring out emotions like no other instrument I know of.

Dropkick Murphys and the Tossers are ok, but they both identify as being "irish punk". Listen to The Real McKenzies for Scottish Punk!
