The idea to match pins to tartans is a good one, and as our Hamish has recommended, will save wear and tear on the fabric. I have taken to doing this also, and am still in search of enough pins to have a permanent pin on each kilt.

The American Heritage tartan doesn't yet rest in my closet, however it will soon, as I have moved it up on my personal wish list.

I did a small search for patriotic pins last night, and didn't yet find one that I felt had sufficient class for the tartan.

I was looking for a sterling silver or gold National Ensign, or some other pin to display national pride. I didn't find anything yet, but I'll keep on looking.

If I had that tartan right now, and didn't yet have a good pin, I would use a pin that I got last year when I volunteered at our local polling place that simply says "I voted."

Good luck in your personal search, and please let us know when you find the perfect pin.

Too big, INMHO, and the "fastening devices" are not that sturdy. Besides, those are branch-service badges. An eagle plate for the "Jeff Davis"/"Hardee" hat might work (the eagle plate pinned up one side of the brim of the 1858 Army hat), but again, the fastening devices leave much to be disired.
