Ok, that's kind of what I was seeing in my mind, almost like leggens. My canvas kilt is kakhi, so I could get some canvas that goes with that and make leg covers, and probably just wear regular socks under that. Thanks for the ideas.

PS Ted the gaitor thing really works...a nylon packcloth gaitor that goes from under the knee down over your boot. They are inexpensive (probably less than good pair of hose) or even easy to make at home. Actually canvas ones would work well, too.

I do wear jeans if I'm working in my citrus or working in the agaves and so on. I wouldn't even wear shorts for that work, but just watering or light weight stuff is nice in a kilt.

I'm thinking that dirt color hose would be best for garden work!

That's what I was thinking. Also, they should be easily washable.

This makes perfect sense! Wear hose that won't show the dirt. One of my favorite, in-house or in-garage kilts it my sportkilt in Black Watch.... It has to be really filthy before I throw it in the washer.

I favor 3/4-inch hose for gardening, but can make do with 1/2-inch. 3/8-inch is intolerably slow.
OK, it is a bad joke, but I've been holding it in for five days. Do you really want me to burst?

I have a tendency to garden barefoot. Or in my rubber wellies with pirate skulls on them if there are prickles in the weeds, although I can walk across gravel and snow barefoot and be fine. My feet never get cold, the rest of me however, stays cold.
