No biggie. I only have to hand-sew maybe all of about 9 inches of pleats. Not a big deal. But I reserve the right to be annoyed about it.
I would guess that you are not keeping the material taught enough. Since the wool stretches... not sure but it may be the issue.

What do I somehow invite this abuse? Granted - I am gorgeous but still, that's no reason for you lesser people to be jealous !

Basting did the trick and lo and behold, the stripes match up acceptably, now. They're not PERFECT, but they're quite acceptable. S this is a six-pleat box pleated kilt in the X-Marks tartan....16 ounce.

I make box-pleat tartan kilts rather differently from what folks would expect. I put in a 2.5 inch-wide strip of twice-washed canvas to take the load of the waistband. There's no cutting out of pleats in the fell, though there's something vaguely related to a steeking line where I lightly sew down the overlapping pleats to one another on the inside.. I realized that I'd plumb run out of hair canvas so I ran down to Jo-Anne's and got some non-fusible, heavy interfacing under the apron on this one. So far, so good.

The lining went in this morning.

At this point I just have to stitch in the tartan waistband, then the buckles and straps and it's done, hopefully just in time for Christmas!
