    I think it may be the case that women in our culture are not used to being outshined by their men. Because the kilt is still considered unusual garb on men in the North America, kilt-wearers tend to stand out like the strutting rooster or brilliantly colored peacock.

    It is changing a bit now a days in "main stream" culture. However, there are plenty of sub cultures, in the U.S. for example, that have bland females and bright colorful men. Some are just all bland or all bright and colorful as well. I kind of like rooster feathers.
