I'm sure there is more info out there on the web. I remember an article in an archeology/history magazine many, many moons ago on the mummies and their ("e" before "i" in relation to another thread) tartans.
NO this is NOT related to Highlander 3!
 OMG! i almost forgot about highlander 3, that movie was pretty good. Actually, i pretty much liked all of the movies, the plot had cool twists and there was always a kilt somewhere, it was 2 that sucked, not a bad movie, but destroyed the plot of all the others, im glad its not considered a part of the series, plus they're making another one in the next couple of years

The Chinese Scottish tartan is available exclusively from the Strathmore Woollen Company based in Forfar Scotland. Let me know if you have difficulty finding it. You will find a small sample of the tartan on my website.

Chinese Scottish tartan
A number of people have been looking for a supplier of the the Scottish Chinese tartan which can only be procured from the Stratmore Woollen Company in Forfar Scotland. An example of the tartan can be seen at my website. The tartan is proving to be very popular. Let me know if you have any difficulty.

Welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy kilting and find the kilts you want.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I first learned of the Chinese-Scottish Tartan this past Summer. I happen to really like it.

Wow, it's been so long I'd forgotten about this thread!
My point was that there were tartans associated with military units in China, regardless of who wore them or how they were/are worn. I'm a military historian by trade, and the Scottish Regiments of the British Commonwealth are of great interest to me, as well as the Gurkhas. My grandfather, who served in China & India during WWII with the US Army Air Force, was a great admirer of the Gurkhas.
But I should point out that the HKVDF and the old Royal HK Regiment were not all European in terms of membership.
Here is the web site for the Beijing Caledonian Society:

Apologies for mis-identifying it as a St. Andrew's Society.
