Assuming that we are talking about a quality kilt - In the final definition, it's a kilt that is worn during the day.
It's really more about what you wear with the kilt, more than the kilt itself. A "tank" can be worn at any time of the day or night with the appropriate assessories.
Now if we bring in the "Casual" kilt into question, that changes things. Few people would wear a causual kilt with evening attire.
This is an over-simplification, but you get the idea.
